The Wonderful World of Random Connections
Isn’t it great when random connections happen? I don’t mean connections like the intermittent fuse in your desk lamp, but real-life occurrences that could lead to amazing things?
I’ll give you an example.
A networking organisation I’m heavily involved with, 4Networking (link in my Blogroll), had Sky TV filming at one of the groups before Xmas. I unfortunately couldn’t go due to other commitments, but had heard that it had gone very well.
A few days ago, the producer of that programme called me, to offer some advice on podcast content (a request I’d posted on the forum that day, to get people’s feedback on what they’d like to hear in my upcoming podcasts which I’ll be producing – more news on that coming soon) – had a great chat with him, really nice bloke, and we seemed to hit it off.
A couple of days later, he leaves me a message on Skype to see if I could help him out by recording a few lines of voiceover for a new TV pilot he’s doing. I of course said no problem at all. We spoke about that clip in more detail only this morning in fact, to get his guidance on style etc. He’s been telling me about more and more things he’s pitching for with various Sky channels, so you never know, this could lead to a reasonable amount of TV work – Great stuff!
All this came from a random connection through the 4Networking site; we’d never met, yet he knew of me through the forum, and thought we should have a chat. Don’t you just love it when that kind of thing happens? Am I pleased?
You betcha.
