Recently I watched the BBC series “The Virtual Revolution”. Being a bit of a techie geek on the quiet, it’s stuff that very much interests me, all things internet, social media and beyond.
I have to say, it was an absolutely fantastic series that explored the origins of the internet and how it’s changed our lives whether we want it to or not, and the revolution of how it’s affected business globally too. For many of us who are small businesses, (and big businesses for that matter), the uses within the …

This is a recent talk I gave at a 4Networking meeting in Birmingham Longbridge about personal and business branding by incorporating audio into the mix.
In this modern age, it’s becoming more and more important for businesses to be accessible to lots of different types of people, and the ways they absorb information. Become a market leader by having an ethos of accessible-to-all, utilising good copywriting, graphics, imagery, video and audio.

I do at times stop and think about how far technology has come on in the last 10 years or so. Now we’re in 2010, being able to receive up to the minute news and information via mobile handsets seems perfectly normal, but certainly wasn’t the case with me using one of my old Nokia’s from 2000!
I remember when I had my first WAP enabled phone; it was desperately slow, but it kind of worked. It was I guess the Teletext equivalent for the mobile revolution. How far things have …

Well folks, the time has arrived, 2010 is now upon us. I for one will welcome this new year in gladly, as for me I think it’s going to be a year that will absolutely rock, work-wise. Things over the past year have been picking up very well, word has spread, and the marketing efforts both online and off are really beginning to pay off.
It’s just the most satisfying feeling when you can see the results happen in front of your eyes. Long hours have been spent travelling the country …

Last Friday was the global launch of Apple’s new operating system, ‘Snow Leopard’. This has already sparked controversy with the techie people I’ve been talking to. Responses like “Oh they’re just charging you for a service pack update” and “it’s not a full OS, it’s hardly an upgrade, but they charge you anyway”.
That’s the kind of response I’ve been hearing over the last week. Not from everyone, though, certainly not from people that actually know what this new release was all about.
For a start, Snow Leopard technically IS a whole …

It seems Apple read my mind with this one. Only last week, having not heard anything about this app anywhere, it just sprang into my mind; ‘wouldn’t it be nice to be able to access my iDisk on my iPhone?’.
Well, they’ve done it, and released a free application that will do just that. Via a simple login screen, you can access all the folders and files contained on your iDisk, and even access other people’s Public Folders to view PDF’s, videos, pictures, MS Office files and more.
The best bit, in …

Rather exciting news was announced this week, with Google taking on the challenge of creating an operating system to rival Mac OS and Windows. They’ve stated that they will release an open source version later this year for developers to modify and play with it, and potentially improve it, with a finished version set to launch next year.
It’s planned that it’ll be designed for netbooks in its early stages, with plans to move it into the desktop world as well. Now, with me being a staunch supporter of all things …

I had a conversation with someone the other day about various forms of marketing in today’s world, with all the technology we have nowadays compared to say 10 years ago. This person wasn’t too out of touch with what you could do now, but they certainly weren’t an uber-geek! We were on the subject of podcasts, and how they can benefit businesses within their existing marketing mix. This person thought, by the name podcast, that you needed an iPod to play it on! (Bless…)
This, naturally, isn’t the case at all. …
