Is It Worth Paying For A Voice Over Artist?
This may be a question that you’ve asked yourself before, or for a lot of you, it probably wouldn’t have even crossed your mind. But there is certainly a proportion of society that own businesses, or are in charge of high profile brands that must at times ask themselves this question. Is it worth paying for a professional voice over artist to promote their brand/company?
The simplest answer is of course, you get what you pay for. If you have a guy in …

This is a recent talk I gave at a 4Networking meeting in Birmingham Longbridge about personal and business branding by incorporating audio into the mix.
In this modern age, it’s becoming more and more important for businesses to be accessible to lots of different types of people, and the ways they absorb information. Become a market leader by having an ethos of accessible-to-all, utilising good copywriting, graphics, imagery, video and audio.

Well folks, the time has arrived, 2010 is now upon us. I for one will welcome this new year in gladly, as for me I think it’s going to be a year that will absolutely rock, work-wise. Things over the past year have been picking up very well, word has spread, and the marketing efforts both online and off are really beginning to pay off.
It’s just the most satisfying feeling when you can see the results happen in front of your eyes. Long hours have been spent travelling the country …

Ok, bold statement time. You may not be listening properly to your customers. So many of us are guilty for it though, so you’re not alone!
It’s true though, sometimes we get so caught up in ‘what we offer’, it’s not always in synch with ‘what people want’. I had a skype chat with a colleague of mine last week, and we got on to the subject of the packages that I currently offer, namely podcasts, on-hold messaging etc etc. Through the conversation he mentioned that it’s easier for other people to …

Yes, you heard it right. Playing dress-up with other business owners is work. Naturally. We are members of 4Networking, and we like to do things differently. Well, very differently!
After a superb breakfast networking meeting at Milton House Hotel in Abingdon, UK, we did something slightly out of the ordinary; certainly when compared to ‘other’ breakfast networking organisations. Our members turned up in fancy dress. Now this isn’t just for fun you understand, but also for a charity calendar photo shoot, entitled ‘Carry On Cluedo!’.
Ellie Colyer-Alasquez had a dream, ladies and …

As a Voice Artist, it’s obviously of utmost importance that I look after my voice as best I possibly can. Technically of course, my voice should be insured, but I kind of haven’t got round to that yet. Ho hum.
Like with any business, you have tools of the trade; computers, phones, stationery; we all need them. My main tool happens to be my voice, and it’s the thing that gets used most often. Just like your favourite laptop, it needs some TLC every so often. The thing you may not …

I’ve been pondering about things today. One thing that suddenly appeared in my consciousness was VOing movies….
Don LaFontaine, a God to many voice artists around the globe. A man you probably wouldn’t recognise in the street, but listen to him for a split second and you’d know instantly.
He was the man, who, on virtually every movie trailer ever made in the last 2 or 3 decades, was the gravelly voice behind them. The ultimate in narration jobs! He died early on in 2008, but to many people, his voice will …

Last Thursday I went along to the ‘Taste Of Birmingham’ event at Cannon Hill Park in Edgbaston – it’s basically an event where all local food & drink producers have stalls so you can sample everything they make.
Thursday’s part of the proceedings was termed ‘A Taste Of Business’, designed for all the local businesses to get first dabs on the good stuff, and treat it as a networking ‘do’. I have a mantra that I go by when at food events, it’s easy-to-remember acronym is: “FYFWAMFFAP” – “Fill Your Face …
